Pacific has two special events coming up this September—and they could hardly be more different.

First, the community will gather to dedicate a long-awaited skate park honoring a hometown hero. Then, just a few days later, the Iron Horse Rodeo will bring cowboys, cowgirls, food and family entertainment to Liberty Field.

From skateboards to saddles, here is what’s happening around Pacific.

šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø Jeffrey White Memorial Skate Park Dedication

On Sunday, September 13, Pacific will celebrate the grand opening of the Jeffrey White Memorial Skate Park at Pacific Community Park. The new park honors U.S. Army Specialist Jeffrey Lee White Jr., a 2008 Pacific High School graduate, Army paratrooper and passionate skateboarder.

Before joining the Army, Jeffrey and his friends skated wherever they could around Pacific and wished their hometown had a dedicated place to skate. Jeffrey enlisted in 2009 and deployed to Afghanistan in December 2011. He was killed in action on April 3, 2012, at only 21 years old. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart.

Beginning in 2021, Jeffrey’s family, friends and community supporters worked to transform that childhood wish into a place future generations could enjoy.

The result is more than a memorial. It is a place where young people can learn, practice, make friends and experience the satisfaction of finally landing something they have worked hard to accomplish.

šŸŽ Pacific’s Iron Horse Rodeo Rides Again

After the skateboards roll, the horses ride in. The following weekend, Pacific’s Iron Horse Rodeo returns to Liberty Field for two evenings of arena action, food, cold drinks and family entertainment.

Cowboys and cowgirls will compete under the lights while spectators enjoy one of Pacific’s liveliest September traditions. The rodeo also offers another chance to gather with neighbors, support local vendors and enjoy a night out without leaving town.
