Updated: Aug 20
Finding the right apartment starts with asking the right questions. Before you schedule a tour or submit an application, here are 10 things every renter should ask.

What are your income, credit, and rental requirements?
What is the application fee and security deposit?
Are there any additional fees, and what utilities are included?
What are the lease terms?
What is the pet policy?
How are maintenance requests handled, including emergencies?
What is the smoking policy?
What parks, grocery stores, libraries, and other everyday conveniences are nearby?
Is renters insurance required?
What laundry options are available?
A Little Advice From PVA
Asking the right questions before you tour or apply could save you a lot of time and upfront costs. The more information you have, the better decision you can make.
And when you take a tour, take a look around. Are the grounds clean and well maintained? Does the community feel like somewhere you’d be comfortable calling home?
Signing a lease is a commitment. Ask questions and make an informed decision.
