Why Labor Day Weekend Is a Great Time to Go

A float trip can be whatever you want it to be:
A laid-back family outing
A fun day for two
A group adventure with friends

Choose Your Float
Brookdale Farms offers two Meramec River routes depending on how much of the day you want to spend on the water.
11-mile route:Ā Kayaks and canoes only, with an 8:30 a.m. reservation. Expect roughly 6 to 8 hoursĀ of float time.
4-mile route:Ā Kayaks, canoes, rafts, and tubes. This route averages about 3 hoursĀ on the river.
One of the neat local details comes near the takeout, where the Big River meets the Meramec River. That confluence is where the name Twin RiversĀ comes from, which makes for a good little piece of Pacific-area trivia to share along the way.
And this stretch of the Meramec offers something else worth noting: Brookdale Farms is the only outfitter operating here. Instead of the heavier crowds found at some Ozarks float destinations, paddlers can enjoy gravel bars, swimming holes, scenic bluffs, and a little more elbow room.
For Labor Day weekend, that sounds pretty hard to beat.
