Pacific Stands Strong: A Community United Against Flooding

Pacific Missouri Post Flood Update: the Meramec River rose to 26.4 feet in Pacific, Missouri, narrowly avoiding the National Weather Service’s major flood stage of 27 feet. While the floodwaters caused temporary road closures and some property damage, the community’s preparedness and resilience ensured that the impact was significantly less severe than in previous years.

Meramec River rose to 26.4 feet in Pacific, Missouri, narrowly avoiding the National Weather Service’s major flood stage of 27 feet.

A Narrow Escape

The floodwaters peaked just 0.6 feet below the major flooding threshold, sparing Pacific from widespread devastation. Streets like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Jefferson, Congress, and Denton experienced closures, but thanks to the efforts of residents, city officials, and volunteers, the damage was minimized. The city’s Emergency Management Agency expressed relief that the river’s crest fell short of earlier predictions, allowing Pacific to avoid more serious consequences.

Coming Together to Face the Challenge

The heart of Pacific’s response was its people. Residents, business owners, and volunteers worked tirelessly to fill and distribute sandbags, protecting homes and businesses from the rising water. Local businesses provided food and beverages to those working on the frontlines, and volunteers came together from near and far to lend a helping hand.

Pacific Mayor Heather Filley summed it up best in a recent Facebook post:

“I could not be more proud and impressed with how the community responded to our flood event. At the end of it all, our community does what they do best: rally together to lend a helping hand.”

The mayor also acknowledged the dedication of city staff, emergency agencies, and utility companies, all of whom played vital roles in ensuring public safety during the flood.

The Cleanup Begins

As the floodwaters recede and the sun shines once again, Pacific residents are hard at work cleaning up and assessing the damage.

  • Yards are being cleared,

  • homes repaired,

  • and businesses reopened.

While the road to recovery will take time, the spirit of cooperation and resilience shown by the community promises a strong comeback.

A Shoutout to the Pacific Community

This week’s flooding reminded us of the power of unity. From those who spent hours sandbagging to the businesses that stepped up to support volunteers, every effort made a difference. To all who contributed: thank you. Your hard work, generosity, and care for your neighbors are what make Pacific such a special place to live.
